My Super Fun Play Book – Quality gift for little ones – Kids ‘R’ Simple

20161221_115827

If you are a mum with toddlers, you should be familiar with the term lapbook, playbook, busybook, quietbook. Basically they are cloth book or paper books with fun activities for curious minds to touch and feel and move around on the pages. Still clueless? Then the below photos should be able to give you an idea!

20161221_130143

The clock has movable hands and velcro-ed numbers to be used for teaching time. The shape sorters on the right has a zipped pocket to store the shapes.

The pizza has detachable slices and the toppings on the right can be put on the pizza.

These lollipops can be slotted into the pockets and can be used to teach colours and fruit names. The tree on the right can be used to tell a story.

The doll’s hair can be untied and braided. Younger kids may find this challenging but will be good to teach little girls to braid hair. The shoes on the right is good for teaching pre-school kids to tie shoe laces!

We received a Super Fun Play Book during Christmas and it came at an appropriate time as a surprise gift for Master 5. You may think that my boy is overage for this book, but the moment it arrived at my doorstep, Missy 12 was the first to flip through the book and play around, brushing the doggie’s fur and moving every movable parts including the zip and hairbands. Well, even I find my itchy fingers pulling the shoelaces out and tying them back again. I think it is human nature to explore the book which is really meant for all these finger actions to train fine motor skills.

20161221_120317

There are 12 pages of activities in this Play Book and each of them is equally engaging. This Play Book is meant to help develop fine motor skills, enhance hand dexterity and encourage creativity. There are many detachable pieces with velcro behind to allow the child to “paste” the pieces around and it could even be used to tell a story. Not only that, it is light weight, with a handle to carry around and it is great as a travel companion. The only downside is that you have to be careful not to lose the detachable pieces.

You will be pleased to know that the Super Fun Play Book has undergone stringent tests and conforms to the European standards of EN 71 (which is the safety requirements for toys, especially those sold in EU) as well as ISO 8124 (The requirements in ISO 8124-1:2014 apply to all toys, i.e. any product or material designed or clearly intended for use in play by children under 14 years of age.).

I like the Vision of this company too. Yes, a Play Book company has a serious Vision as well!

” We are committed to the ethical sourcing of our material and work closely with handicraft producers and traditional master embroiderers to ensure that our products achieve the finest level of quality and workmanship. We cultivate and develop homegrown talents and skills of the underprivileged and promote their welfare by maintaining fair labour practices.”

The Super Fun Play Book has just got an award from Tillywig Toy Award too!

A Super Fun Play Book That My Kids Love + Promo Code!  | The Pleasure Monger

A Super Fun Play Book That My Kids Love + Promo Code!

I love toys and books that give us good mileage because (a) I don’t want my home to be cluttered with things as seasons change, (b) we save money in the long run, and most importantly (c) the kids learn not to hanker after the next flashy toy they see and learn to explore the same object in different and creative ways.

I am in disbelief at how well the third point has worked out for us but I am beyond glad that it has. The kids, especially F who is 4 years old, have no problem leaving a toy store without throwing a tantrum. Yes, they would be fascinated by all the knick-knacks calling out to them from the shelves, but they are perfectly happy to leave the store with minimal persuasion as they have learnt (with our guidance and then on their own) that they have sufficient open-ended toys at home that are always fun-enough for them.

One thing that I really like is a good quiet book that grows with the child. I have been looking for one since E was born as I had hoped for the book to keep F busy whilst I nurse E to sleep in the evenings. One can get really useful ones online, some of which you can personalise with pages that you like, but holy moly, those can cost USD10 per page and I just can’t bring myself to spend more than $100 for a busy book with sufficient content, no matter how well-made or interesting they are. I managed to work out a way to keep F quietly busy eventually when my secondborn winds down for bedtime, but when the very active E was due to go on his second flight, I searched for one that cost about $60, bought it on impulse, and regretted the purchase because it was completely uninteresting and none of my kids liked it.

When Sapna from Smarter Concepts approached me to give My Super Fun Play Book a try, I was skeptical at first but having taken a look at the book and the company’s vision in detail on the site, I was sold.

The company is committed to sourcing materials ethically and works closely with seamstresses and handicraft producers to ensure good workmanship. Smarter Concepts cultivates homegrown talents, develops skills of underprivileged women in the Philippines, and promotes their welfare by maintaining fair labour practices, and purchasing the play book is an amazing way to support this vision. The book has also undergone stringent tests and conforms to the European standards of EN 71 and ISO 8124, and it is good to know that the book is safe for my kids to play with.

I am glad to report that the play book is highly sought after in our home. F and E love to take it from room to room (it’s super portable as it’s made of fabric and not the least bit heavy) and they sit down quietly to go through the activities on each page. The only time when they make a peep is when they fight over it…which is pretty often because the book is fun for kids of various age groups! E is about 22 months old and he loves sorting colours, playing with the finger puppets, brushing the dog’s teeth, or simply taking the accessories off and sticking them back on the pages. F particularly enjoys a game of Tic-Tac-Toe, loves making pizza (and Mama gets a go at teaching her what a balanced diet is using the different ingredients available) and she is very keen on learning how to tell the time, braid hair, tie shoelaces, etc. Have a look at the time-lapse video I have taken of F playing with the book and you will see that it really is a book that grows with the child.

The workmanship of the play book is excellent too. E can be pretty rough with things in our house but the play book is so impeccably sewn that it has survived his vicious tugging on some of the accessories on the pages! The stitching and attention to detail is evident on every accessory on every page and this has me wondering how this book of 12 pages can go for less than USD4.80 per page (even cheaper if you use my discount code)!

The book is really affordable for its quality and mileage, and gives even the best quiet book I have seen out there a run for its money. I am planning to bring this book with us for when we travel in a few months’ time; this way, the kids get something (they love) to do other than vegging out in front of the telly onboard!

You may purchase this book over here. Don’t forget to use my discount code thepleasuremonger to get USD10 off the book (that works out to only USD48!) when you check out (valid until 31 January 2017, so HURRY).

Toys For The Plane: My Super Fun Play Book – Jetlag and Mayhem

Toys For The Plane: My Super Fun Play Book

fullsizerender

I’m always looking for ways to limit screen time either on a plane or relaxing on holiday. I don’t see anything wrong with a little screen time (she says furiously tapping away on her laptop, simultaneously browsing instagram) but there’s something so rewarding about watching kids play with actual toys. It can be difficult to find a toy that will pique the interest of a youngster.  Extra points goes to the toy if it’s remotely educational. Which is why I was so excited to road test the ‘My Super Fun Playbook’ by Smarter Concepts.

Sapna’s inspiration came from her frustration of having to purchase numerous books for a hyperactive niece who would take one glance at them and look completely disinterested.  So she decided to create her own!

img_1819

The book is beautiful; 12 activity pages which are colourful and beautiful hand stitched.  Each page provides a different learning and creative experiences.  We tested the book out on a 7, 5, 3 and 15 month old. My 7 and 5 year old happily played with it on the plane for a WHOLE HOUR (Tic tac toe & making pizza).  The 3 and 5 year old spent ages playing with the finger puppets, traffic lights and hair brading. The 15 month old was content unsticking all the pieces and putting them back in the book.

img_1818

This is a really gorgeous toy and would make the perfect birthday present (best suited to ages 2+). It’s also lightweight and easy to pack for a plane journey.  The whole book zips up nicely around the edge, also containing any stray pieces that aren’t haven’t found their correct velcro home (you may want to do a quick sweep of the floor before departing the plane!).  To see a video of the book in its glory, check out this short YouTube clip.

The book can be purchased online and can be shipped worldwide.  The book normally costs USD 58 but for all my lovely readers, the discount code of ‘jetlagandmayhem’ will get you a USD 10 discount, valid till 31st January 2017. Enjoy!
